The sky may have been grey for the Great Pink Run in 2011 but the entire Dublin Docklands/ Grand Canal and the Point Village were inundated with a tide of pink as over 1200 participants ran, jogged and walked the 5k distance in the torrential rain. Despite the weather, nothing could dampen the spirits of the men, women, children and dogs that came out in pink to support Breast Cancer Ireland’s inaugural Great Pink Run.
Over €90,000 was raised last year and went directly to support pioneering breast cancer research programmes, in advancing a cure, but the research must go on – so our aim is to make the 2012 not just bigger and better, but pinker too!
The same flat course will be used, so those after a personal best, or simply improving on last year, will have their opportunity. The more competitive souls will be happy to hear that this year there is also a 10km option with a second lap of the same course being offered. There will be cash prizes and other novelty prizes for the various categories offered.
Last year Bootcamp Ireland was on hand to get everyone limbered up before the start and they will put the same colour in your cheeks, before the off, this year too, so that you’ll be able to do your very best for this worthy cause.
Last year the winning runner was Eoin Flynn from Rathfarnham who crossed the line in a super time of 00:15:51 and he wasn’t even blue so with the 10km option now available, this event looks like the one not to be missed.
